Living at the Gafney
|
As you enter the foyer our warm and friendly livingroom welcomes you. A comfortable over stuffed couch and chairs are at the ready for every guest. The hardwood floor shines and a chandelier lights the room, reminding us all that we are home. The piano waits for those moments when we have a guest or even a passing nurse to sit and play. At parties and for worship service its sound fills the entire house, drawing out residents and employees alike. Natural light spills into the room from the many large windows, displaying a snow scene, a summer scene, or childern walking home from school.

Each resident is the master of his or her own space. Many bring memories from home, pictures, a favorite chair, and maybe a throw rug tossed in. Rooms have large windows filling their space with light and views of the ever changing world. Our all new nurses station on the first floor is a meeting place for families and residents with questions or concerns. Next to the nurses station is our infirmary, not often used but, when it is needed, it allows for a more intimate setting for that extra special care. It gives peace of mind to those who care for our residents. No rushing up or down stairs when someone is ill; they are only a room away.

Our dining room comes to life every morning as the aroma of breakfast fills the house. All of our home cooked meals are served in the family style dining room where tables are scattered so that conversation fills the room. The sound of conversation and laughter fill the home as our dining room doubles as a gathering place for families. Whether it's a holiday or just dinner with mom or dad, guests are always welcome.

Residents know that every Tuesday is beauty day. Gafney Home has its own salon and Marion just loves to visit and share all the latest news: Who's had a new great grandbaby, did you see all that snow, or whichever tidbit they decide to share. All residents are welcome, so come pull up a chair while you wait and visit.

The Gafney Home is beautifully landscaped, even offering raised planting beds so our residents can come get their hands dirty growing either veggies or flowers. The lawn is freshly cut. Benches and chairs placed around the yard offer an inviting place to rest on a warm spring day. There are a few bird feeders, which seem to always be busy, so bird watching is always on the to do list.

Living at the Gafney Home is not the end of our residents' social lives, but just another chapter. We offer a wide variety of fun activities, from birthday parties and holiday parties to sing-a-longs and days at the beach. Each resident is encouraged to foster friendships and create new memories to last a second lifetime.
